Top Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 5

1) Zavier Scott

As you can tell from the top name on this week’s list, Week 4’s waiver wire pickings are pretty sparse; however, Minnesota running back Zavier Scott is someone you want on your roster especially considering the barren wasteland that is the available running backs in most leagues.
With Aaron Jones on IR, Zavier Scott has become the Vikings’ clear receiving back in a Kevin O’Connell, high-octane passing offense.
Scott’s role has increased each week since Jones’ injury as Scott has scored at least six points and seen at least eight touches in both games, including scoring 16 fantasy points last week and scoring an impressive, toe-tapping touchdown in the back of the end zone.
That would be … ZAVIER SCOTT with the toe-drag swag for six!

While Scott was inactive Week 1 and received no looks until Jones’ injury and doesn’t have many notable stats to speak of, he does rank among the top 25 RBs in receiving yards, passer rating when targeted, receptions, and catch percentage.
That role in itself warrants fantasy value with the injuries we’ve already seen combined with the fact that some RB1s like Josh Jacobs will be on bye in Week 5.
Additionally, Scott’s usage is likely to increase considering his efficiency, and today he ranks 10th among RBs in yards per target (per Pro Football Reference).
Available in 99% of leagues, Scott projects as an immediate low-end RB2 and risky flex in deeper leagues, and likely will find himself in many starting lineups in Week 5 due to bye weeks, injuries, and depth issues already destroying many fantasy RB rooms.
2) Romeo Doubs

Doubs exploded for nearly 30 fantasy points this weekend, easily putting him back on the fantasy radar and likely making him the top claim in the 70+% of leagues that he is available in right now.
So far Doubs has put up double-digit fantasy points and scored at least one TD in half his games, which makes him the best dice roll a WR-needy team can find if anyone out there is looking to start him immediately.

Among 2025 WRs, Doubs ranks:
- 20th in fantasy points
- 4th in passer rating when targeted (137.9)
- 13th in red zone target share (30%)
- 18th in ADOT
- 19th in yards per target
- 20th in receiving success rate
Doubs has scored at least 8.8 fantasy points and seen at least four targets in 3/4 weeks, so his volume and floor are as good as it gets at this point in most league’s waivers.

He’s been sneaky efficient too with an underrated target share, and ranks 15th among WRs this season in average intended air yards (per Next Gen Stats) and is responsible for 31% of all of the Packers’ air yards this season.
After the Packers return from their bye week, Doubs should project as a low-end, high-ceiling, WR3 or flex play in 12-team or deeper leagues.
3) Sam Darnold

Darnold has now put up at least 15 fantasy points in three straight weeks, leads the league in yards per completion, and him throwing to JSN appears to be a staple of the Seahawks offense.
He’s athletic enough to break out of sacks, and his ball placement when throwing on the run is astounding.
Through four weeks, he looks like the same decisive, accurate passer with phenomenal anticipation that we saw just a season ago in Minnesota, leaving most questioning why the Vikings let go of the talented passer and former first round pick who led the team to a 14-3 record.

Darnold is currently 2nd to only Lamar in yards per attempt, 6th in passer rating, 7th in completion percentage, 10th in QBR, and 13th in passing yards.
The Seahawks are currently running a very balanced attack which opens things up for the entire offense and is resulting in some of the best production of Sam Darnold’s career.
Through four weeks, Seattle’s signal caller leads the NFL in completed air yards per pass attempt and completed air yards per completion, has thrown for the fifth-most completed air yards, and leads the league in on-target throw percentage too.
Sam Darnold since 2022
27 starts (20-7 record)
523 completions / 805 attempts (65%)
6422 passing yards (8.0 Y/A)
48 TD (6% rate)
18 INT (2.2% rate)
347 rush yards / 4 rush TD
7.7% sack rate

Second in average completed air yards and fifth in average air yard differential (per Pro Football Reference), Darnold is playing like a Madden create-a-player when it comes to his decision making and downfield passing.
He is probably the last available real QB2 with QB1 potential left on waivers, especially considering the likes of the Penix/Stafford/Rodgers tier of QBs has likely already been claimed.
