Let me be first to admit that Philadelphia 76ers fans’ obsession with former General Manger Sam Hinkie is nothing short of cultish. If you haven’t been following the sixers for the past few years, you’ll probably never understand it. BUT, I will also be the first to admit that Sam Hinkie is nothing short of Jesus Christ. Over one year after his resignation, the moves he has made are still having a profound impact on the 76ers. News broke almost one hour ago that the Celtics are in serious talks with the 76ers. This deal involves the Celtics trading their number one overall pick for the Sixers number three pick and most likely a future pick down the road.
However, these talks would most likely not be happening if Sam Hinkie didn’t make the moves he did as General Manger. Derek Bodner is reporting that the “assets the #sixers are likely dangling to move up to get Fultz originated from MCW and taking on contracts from Sacramento.” These talks would not be happening if Sam Hinkie had not ripped off Vlade Divac and the Kings as well as somehow trading the recently cut Michael Carter Williams for a first round pick.
Obviously, the deal is not finalized yet, but they are being described as in “advanced talks.” A 76ers lineup of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Dario Saric, Markelle Fultz and whoever else they acquire in the off-season would be nothing short of incredible. Philadelphia could finally become an attractive free agent destination for free agents and playoffs in the very near future is likely if this deal is executed. Time is truly a flat circle. Thank you Hinkie
